A Message to Judges and Law Clerks: I am a former Law Clerk for the Eastern District of California. After litigating for a while at a large law firm in downtown LA, I decided to create a company that provides valuable, practical CLE programs for attorneys. I'd like you to speak at one of our seminars. I created Pincus Professional Education to fill a need - to teach attorneys all the practical and civil procedure stuff they never learned in law school. I realized while clerking that Judges, law clerks and court research attorneys know so much and have so much to teach that they are the perfect people to train practicing attorneys the "do's and don'ts" of litigation from the court's perspective. The more attorneys know what the court wants, and the better attorneys get at providing that, the easier it is on court to get the job done. I know I was constantly frustrated by the increased work load I faced due to simple mistakes made by the attorneys on cases I handled. We've been providing these programs for several years and they are very popular. We always get great evaluations and feedback and have received many requests to expand our offerings into different cities, states and different types of law. The universal opinion is that this form of practical education is exactly what is needed and everyone appreciated hearing tips as well as warnings from court attorneys and judges that really know the rules. A small sample of the hundreds of comments we've received include: "I am no longer afraid to practice in federal court." To date we have held federal trial court programs, bankruptcy programs, 9th Circuit programs, state trial court seminars (focusing on motion practice), state appellate programs and state writ programs throughout California and Washington. We would like to offer more practical programs in your area if you are interested in speaking about a topic that will improve attorneys' practices. We also have outlines available for programs we have already held, so if you are interested in speaking at one of these programs in your area, they should require very little preparation on your part. Current law clerks receive a speaking stipend for their time, which is allowable under the court rules of conduct. If a Judge would like a stipend, or a stipend donated to a charity, we provide that as well. If you are interested in speaking at an existing program, or creating a new one, please call Sandy Linville directly at (877) 858-3848 or email her at sandy@pincuscommunications.com. Please note, if you are a current research attorney or law clerk, you will need to receive permission from your judge in order to speak in public.
